It's mathematically weird too, because today marks 5 years - but in 5 days, I'll be getting on an oil-based aeroplane and moving my life to Florida, USA. I'm looking forward to the challenges of building sustainable community there. Whilst going through all my paperwork in preparation for the move, I found this note I wrote on a scrap once, which I thought would make a nice post here (and then I can throw the scrap in the recycling). It harks back to some of the more cultural discussion of this blogs early days.
Peak Oil and the Future of Film
There will always be things that we can't explain with words but can still somehow understand on screen - that's why film studies is an infinately expanding subject. This additional level to life that art seems to provide justifies its existance, as a way of expanding humanities understanding of itself. This should not be mistaken for deciding others should suffer so that we may feel cultured, but rather that if the expanding of our collective knowledge is the goal, all should be equal to partake.
Maybe one day I'll flesh it out and finish it.. !
